44th Annual Membership Meeting: Award Winners

Prattville, ALNearly 400 people attended the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce’s 44th Annual Membership Meeting held at the Marriott Legends in Prattville to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of the last year, applaud this year’s award winners, and kick off the Chamber’s 45th year of service. Attendees included members, volunteers, business leaders, elected officials and some of the Chamber’s major partners.
Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman Eric Alford, General Manager of Bass Pro Shops, kicked off the program by highlighting the accomplishments achieved by the Prattville Chamber during his term. He also recognized out going Board Members for their service. The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce presented awards to the Volunteer of the Year, Ambassador of the Year, Small Business of the Year, and Industry of the Year.
The 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Clay McConnell, Manager of Alabama Power Company’s Prattville and Wetumpka Business Offices, for his outstanding contributions to the Prattville Chamber and the community.
McConnell currently serves on the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Committee and served on the Prattville Chamber’s Board of Directors from 2007-2013, serving as Chairman of the Board in 2012 and Past Chair in 2013. He also currently serves as a board member for the Prattville YMCA, the Autauga Education Foundation, and PASS (Peers Are Staying Straight).
The 2017 Ambassador of the Year Award was presented to Jennifer Wadsworth, Retail Sales and Service Manager for MAX Credit Union, Prattville Main Street location, for her outstanding performance and dedicated service to the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce. Wadsworth has shown her dedication to the Ambassador Program through her attendance at Chamber and community events, outreach to our current members and introducing others in our community to the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce.
The 2017 Small Business of the Year Award was presented to Glover Media Group, LLC. for
outstanding business success, chamber involvement and community service.  Nominations for this award were submitted by our community and the winner was selected by a panel of their peers, based on their demonstrated commitment to the advancement of the business and community involvement in Prattville and Autauga County. This family-run business started as a husband and wife team in 2013. Over the last four years they have seen growth in almost every key aspect of their business, and in the last three years have experienced a 300% growth rate. Glover Media group is involved in the community in many ways, including the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce. Kyle Glover currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce and is Vice-Chairman of the Economic Development Committee. Marnie, his wife, serves on the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition Board of Directors. Being an active member of the Prattville Chamber has meant a great deal to the development of their business and their networking opportunities. By supporting the Chamber’s “Membership Has Its Privileges” Campaign and allowing Chamber Members to receive a discount on their advertising and consequently empowering our local small businesses to grow and prosper.
The Chamber’s 2017 Industry of the Year Award was presented to Kinedyne, LLC for their commitment to investment and growth in the local community. In 1986, Kinedyne broke ground on a new 16,000 square foot facility. Their focus was to expand their capacity to manufacture quality synthetic web material for use in its cargo control straps. In 2015, Prattville was selected as the site of this company’s expansion, total capital investment for this expansion was $2.4 million with an anticipated 33 new jobs, taking the total employment to 98 at the Prattville plant. With continued investment in capital, Kinedyne has grown to well over 180 employees and invested a total of $2.8 million since its expansion in 2015.
Eric Alford passed the gavel to Bob Gipson, Co-Owner Gipson Tire Pros, who will begin his term as Chairman of the Board on October 1, 2017. Gipson will lead the Chamber’s mission to improve economic development opportunities in Autauga County and Prattville by targeting industrial development programs and filling vacant building space throughout the community, expanding workforce training opportunities, setting priorities for community growth and competitiveness, and continue enhancing the value of membership through new programs and benefits that will be developed in the coming year. He will work to ensure the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce remains business driven, community minded and volunteer based in 2018.
